The Italian government's decision is historic in the fight against the Covid-19. On the night of March 7 to 8, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed the decree confirming the quarantine of four regions in the north of the country: Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Marche. In all, more than 15 million people are under house arrest, including the country's economic capital, Milan. As in the Lombard capital, the residents were ordered to remain confined. Until April 3, cultural outings and travel are prohibited.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has welcomed this courageous decision. “Travel in these areas will only be authorized for justified professional reasons, emergencies or for health reasons”said the chairman of the board. The move follows more than 1,200 new cases on Saturday March 7 and 233 deaths on the peninsula.
