“We are identifying the victims, but I am afraid this process will take time,” said a British police commissioner on Wednesday.
Thirty-nine bodies were discovered in a truck on the night of Tuesday 22 to Wednesday, 23 October, in Grays, Essex, east of London. The 25-year-old driver from Northern Ireland was arrested for murder, police said.
According to preliminary evidence, the vehicle came from Bulgaria and entered the United Kingdom on 19 October Holyhead, Wales, a port on the west coast of Great Britain. “We are identifying victims, but I'm afraid this process will take time”, said Commissioner Andrew Mariner, quoted by the BBC (in English).
