A very rare primitive painting of the Italian Cimabue awarded over 24 million euros

A very rare masterpiece of the primitive Italian painter Cimabue (1272-1302), “The Mocked Christ”, was sold 24,180,000 euros (including fees), at a historic auction Sunday in Senlis (Oise) announced the Acteon auction house.

The sum was 19.5 million under the hammer, without the costs. Actéon did not specify the profile of the purchaser of this table, which was estimated between 4 and 6 million euros. This is the first time in decades that a painting of Cimabue was under the hammer.
