It is his most resounding achievement to date. Acrobat Nick Wallenda crossed on Wednesday March 4, the crater of the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua, at a height of 635 meters, on a rope 550 meters long. This 41-year-old American from Florida accomplished this feat in just 31 minutes. To protect himself from toxic gas fumes, he was forced to wear a gas mask. “I can't breathe these gases, because they absorb all the oxygen in the air“, he had explained before launching himself.
It's not quite a first for Nick Wallenda. In his career, he already crossed Niagara Falls, on the border between Canada and the United States, in 2012, a historic first. A year later, he had crossed the Grand Canyon in the southern United States.
