In early March, the Chinese government launched a campaign to promote the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine in the Covid-19. The Chinese Embassy in France, for example, has relayed a list of six traditional herbal remedies and other natural products: capsules, granules, injections and even cleaning decoctions. “It is an alternative to relieve many symptoms such as lowering fever, strengthening the immune system and curbing the deterioration of the health of coronavirus patients“, explains Professor Bingkai Liu, doctor of Chinese medicine at the Paris Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital.
In China, nearly 60,000 people infected with the coronavirus have been treated with Chinese medicine and most of them are cured. Authorities are also highlighting clinical trials where Chinese medicine combined with Western medicine works better. To say that these products are effective against Covid-19 is scientifically wrong. Chinese remedies can relieve, but not cure.
