Coronavirus: LVMH to produce hydroalcoholic gel

The luxury group LVMH will manufacture “in large quantities” hydroalcoholic gel on three of its French production sites usually dedicated to its perfumes and cosmetics (Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy), and will give it to hospitals, announces it sunday.

“Faced with the risk of shortage observed in France, Bernard Arnault (the CEO of the group) asked the perfumes and cosmetics branch of LVMH to mobilize its production capacities to manufacture and offer to the public authorities significant quantities of hydroalcoholic gel”, specifies a statement issued on Sunday.

“All of the production units” in France for the perfumes and cosmetics of the Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy brands, located respectively in Saint-Jean de Braye (near Orléans), Chartres and Beauvais, a spokesperson told AFP will be mobilized “from Monday”.

These gels will be “delivered free of charge to French health authorities”

These gels will then be “delivered free of charge to the French health authorities, in priority” to the 39 hospitals of the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), an initiative which will last “as long as necessary”, says the group. Twelve tonnes will be produced in the first week, and more thereafter.

The AP-HP was experiencing “supply tensions on hydroalcoholic gels, but no shortage,” said a spokesperson, according to which “other companies have come forward to make donation proposals, which are being finalized. “

The director general of the AP-HP Martin Hirsch “thanks LVMH for its responsiveness: they made us a proposal on Saturday at 9:00 pm, which materialized Sunday at 3:00 pm,” he told AFP.

Last Friday the pharmaceutical group Sanofi announced the creation of a seed fund to “support the research effort of the AP-HP teams” mobilized to face the epidemic, which the investment company Tikehau Capital will , for its part, a donation of an undisclosed amount.
