Insurers and brokers promise to less inconvenience consumers over the phone. The sector has agreed to limit canvassing by June 2020. “If the refusal is given by the insured from the first call, the insurer or his distributor will refrain from contacting the insured again”, says Philippe Poiget of the French Federation of Insurance. In the future, recalling a second time will be prohibited if the consumer is not interested. For a contract, the consent must be written and no longer oral and a period of 24 hours is also mandatory between the call and the signing of a contract.
These commitments are expected to reduce the telephone nuisance suffered by the elderly in the majority. The industry has decided itself to impose these rules and they will not be binding. For the consumer associations, the intention is good, but it is far from sufficient.
