Raymond Poulidor passed away at the age of 83

Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat (Haute-Vienne) is in mourning. The child of the country, Raymond Poulidor, escaped definitively at the age of 83, Wednesday, November 13. The former cycling champion wrote the most beautiful pages of this sport, especially those of the Tour de France. The whole family came to celebrate his 80th birthday. The new generation is also affected by the news. “I will especially remember his smile and his presence with the organizers, in parochial races, where he was really the link between the crowds and the cycling sport”, says Romain Bardet.

Fans are not left out. In the Bois de Boulogne, in Paris, sadness and memories are jostling in the testimonies. “Ah, well, so say, it's a blow”responds a jogger of a certain age. “Bah, he won 181 and some races anyway … Only the Tour de France he did not win, unfortunately”, argues a cyclist. Raymond Poulidor stopped his career in 1977, but never left the race, until last summer, where in yellow, he congratulated Julian Alaphilippe, the next generation of French cycling.
