Thursday, November 14, at night in the National Assembly, the amendment was neither defended nor discussed in the Chamber. The same assembly had voted a year ago to exclude palm oil from the list of biofuels. This turnaround has sparked an uproar among environmental advocates. “In a night sitting in the National Assembly, I say it in anger that you feel, taking advantage that there were not many people, we extended the tax advantage on palm oil until in 2026 “regrets the former Minister of the Environment, Nicolas Hulot.

A tax gift for Total?

This drop in taxes on palm oil represents 70 million euros of tax benefits for Total. The oil group inaugurated this summer the refinery of La Mède (Bouches-du-Rhone) near Marseille. Heard at the National Assembly, the CEO of Total regretted the possible questioning of tax benefits. “We committed to this investment in 2015 in full agreement with the government in a given fiscal framework”, affirmed Patrick Pouyanné last September.
