VIDEO. Nemo, the guardian of the forest

This is the story of a young woman who dedicates her life to the defense of her territory: thousands of hectares of Amazon rainforest in Ecuador. Nemonte Nenquimo, 34, is leading a resistance movement to prevent oil companies from entering his land and causing deforestation and environmental damage.

After months of fighting, in July 2019, it won a historic victory in court: it forced its government to suspend the auction of its territory.

Waoranis feed and take care of themselves thanks to all that nature offers them

At 6 hours by canoe from the first road, Nemo invited us to come and discover his world. The Waorani have not changed much in their way of life for thousands of years. They live in quasi-autonomy, feeding and caring for themselves thanks to everything that their precious nature offers them.

A report by Laura Aguirre de Carcer, Swanny Thiébaut and Marielle Krouk broadcast in “Special Envoy” on March 12, 2020.
