In Châtelet (Paris), one of the largest shopping center in Paris is marked by crowd movements and tear gas. Police and protesters run among the customers who came to shop for Christmas. “I saw smoke, firecrackers, people running masked, CRS”says one passerby. Most of the protesters have just arrived from Italy, from where a procession was to start in the early afternoon.
But even before the start of the demonstration, violent clashes take place. Individuals with hidden faces erect barricades, burn down street furniture or vehicles. And when firefighters arrive, their truck is targeted. The crowd prevents them from intervening. The prefect then decides to intervene the departure of the event and provokes the wrath of the organizers.
