Sunday, November 3, smoke was still emerging from the rubble of the capital of Chanteloup-les-Vignes (Yvelines). There is nothing left of L'Arche, this center dedicated to the arts, the stage and the circus, whose inhabitants were so proud. “There is not even a word, it's stupidity, inexcusable,” launches one of them at the micro franceinfo. The fire started on Saturday night as thirty hooded individuals attacked police and firefighters. The police were fired several times with mortar and Molotov cocktails. Two of them were slightly injured.
“There is a criminal fire, deliberate, very organized, in a context of violence on the police, on a place of culture, on a place of freedom”, laments Catherine Arenou, mayor of Chanteloup-les-Vignes. Two individuals, including a minor, were arrested at the scene and taken into custody. It is a new evening of violence in this department of Yvelines where incidents are increasing in recent weeks. The public prosecutor's office opened two investigations for violence against the police and the destruction of the cultural center. The damage is estimated at at least 800 000 euros. The mayor has already announced that the Ark will be rebuilt.
